This 9-day expedition through Socotra Island, a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve, is a deep dive into one of the world’s most surreal and untouched environments. From highland plateaus and mysterious caves to glowing coral reefs and beachside camps, every day unveils a new side of the island’s rare beauty.
Begin your journey at the serene Delisha Beach, then move through the mystical Dragon Blood Tree forests of Fermhin. Explore the remote canyons of De’erho and the mountain passes to Amak, and uncover the secrets of Degub and Hoq Caves carved by time. Bathe in natural infinity pools at Homhil, snorkel among vibrant reefs in Dihamri, and unwind in paradise on Qalansiyah Bay with an optional boat ride to Shoab Beach, where dolphins often accompany you.
Led by local guides, this journey blends ecotourism, adventure, and cultural experience, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the alien landscapes of Socotra, far removed from the modern world.
Departure from Hadiboo at 08:00 AM to the Daxim area, where you can enjoy the sight of dragon's blood trees and take some pictures. Afterward, we’ll drive towards Fermahen, home to the largest dragon's blood tree forest, with over two million trees. Continue your journey to reach the freshwater pools at Wadi De'erhor, where we’ll take a rest and enjoy swimming in the cool, fresh waters before setting up camp for the night.
After breakfast, we’ll travel south to explore Nujed and Defsha Mountain before reaching Amak Beach, one of the island’s hidden gems where turquoise waters meet golden sands. Here, we’ll also visit Degub Cave, a fascinating natural chamber that offers cool shelter and stunning views over the coastline. We’ll set up camp for the night to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Wake up early to embark on a full-day adventure across the natural wonders of Socotra’s south. From Amak, we’ll journey to the Great Sand Dunes of Hayf and Zahek, towering dunes that rise dramatically from the desert, their soft sands shifting with the wind. This is one of Socotra’s most surreal landscapes, perfect for photography and simply soaking in the grandeur of nature.
In the afternoon, we’ll continue to Defarho, a rugged inland area that showcases the island’s diverse terrain. After some exploration and relaxation, we’ll drive back to Hadiboo, where we’ll spend the night.
In the morning at 08:00 AM, we’ll depart from Hadibo to visit Qarya Lagoon, the largest lagoon on the island, often home to flamingos. From there, we’ll drive to Homhil Protected Area, the land of frankincense, and explore the Frankincense Forest, an ancient forest of Arabic gum trees. Next, we’ll visit the Homhil Viewpoint, where you can overlook the eastern coast amidst the iconic dragon's blood trees.
We’ll then continue on to Wadi Areher, where freshwater springs from the caves. Here, you’ll have the chance to swim in the Areher River, a natural freshwater bath right by the sea. After a day of exploration, we’ll set up camp for the night.
Departure from Areher towards Hoq Cave. We’ll stop at the base of the mountain and begin a 2-hour uphill hike to reach Hoq Cave, one of Socotra’s most fascinating natural wonders. Spend about an hour exploring the cave, marveling at its ancient stalactites and mystical atmosphere.
After hiking back down, we’ll visit the Dihamri Marine Protected Area for a relaxed swim before heading back to Hadiboo. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Departure from Hadiboo to Qalansiyah, the island’s second-largest town, where traditional life still thrives along its fishing harbor. (Optional: Take a boat ride to Shu'ab Mangrove for a trip in the Arabian Sea.) Swim and snorkel in Shu'ab, enjoying its pristine waters. As the sun begins to set, we’ll return to Detwah Lagoon, where you’ll witness one of the most unforgettable sunsets of your journey. Afterward, we’ll set up camp for the night.
This morning, we continue to Kadma Beach, a secluded stretch of coast also known as “Turtle Beach.” If the season is right, you may witness turtles nesting or hatching—a rare and magical sight. After enjoying the tranquil setting, we’ll make our way back to Hadiboo for rest and relaxation. Overnight stay at Hadiboo Hotel.
