Step into the heart of southern Yemen with this rich 5-day journey through Hadhramaut’s historic towns and coastal treasures. Starting in Seiyun, you’ll explore royal palaces, traditional souqs, and nearby gems like Tarim, a cradle of Islamic learning, and the high-rise mud town of Shibam, often referred to as the “oldest skyscraper city in the world.”
Your route continues through the mesmerizing desert villages of Al-Hajarin and Sif, before arriving at the scenic and gravity-defying Haid Al-Jazeel, dramatically perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking Wadi Doan.
The journey concludes in Al-Mukalla, a coastal city with whitewashed buildings, colonial architecture, and stunning seaside views. Immerse yourself in local culture, stroll along the lively harbor, and enjoy the fresh breeze of the Arabian coast.
This tour offers a blend of cultural depth, natural wonder, and authentic Hadhrami hospitality — perfect for those seeking to experience Yemen’s preserved heritage away from the beaten path.
Departure from the hotel at 8:00 AM to Tarim, one of the most important centers of Islamic learning in Yemen. Here, we’ll explore the Al-Muhdar Mosque, known for its striking mud-brick minaret, and the Al-Qaf Palace, a fine example of architecture in Hadramout. After enjoying our tour in Tarim, we will return to Seiyun to visit Al-Kathiri Palace, the city’s most iconic landmark — a massive white mud-brick palace that once housed the Kathiri sultans. Today, it serves as the Seiyun Museum, showcasing artifacts, manuscripts, and treasures from Hadramawt.
By midday, we return to the hotel for check-in and lunch, followed by a short rest to escape the midday heat. At around 3:00 PM, we set out for Shibam, famously called the “Manhattan of the Desert” due to its centuries-old mud skyscrapers. We’ll spend a couple of hours wandering its alleys, then climb to the nearby mountainside for a spectacular sunset view over the town. Evening return to the hotel.
After breakfast, we leave Seiyun at 8:00 AM and head west, turning south into the heart of Wadi Doan—one of Hadramawt’s most scenic valleys. This lush, fertile wadi is framed by towering plateaus and dotted with unique villages. Along the way, we’ll stop at picturesque towns such as A l Mashhad, Al Hajarain, Sif, and Rehab, before continuing on to Kharaibah, small villages rich in charm and history—perfect spots to fill your camera roll.
By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the magical Haid Al Jazeel, a hotel perched dramatically on a plateau overlooking the valley. Enjoy an overnight stay here, with panoramic views that seem almost otherworldly.
While you're in Khailah, staying at the hotel atop the plateau, the view from above is something that feels almost otherworldly. At 08:00, we’ll leave this celestial vantage point and drive to Qail B. Wazer, where you’ll have the opportunity to see henna and tobacco trees, the famous springs, and the charming village nestled amidst them.
Afterward, we’ll head toward the coastline and the port city of Al Mukalla, where we’ll enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
This morning, we explore the historic port city of Al Mukalla, the gateway to Hadramout and one of Yemen’s most picturesque coastal towns. Our first stop is the Sultan’s Palace (also known as Ma'in Palace), a landmark that overlooks the Arabian Sea. The palace, now home to the Mukalla Museum, houses collections of artifacts, manuscripts, and treasures that showcase the region’s rich history and culture.
Next, we immerse ourselves in local life with a visit to the Fish Market, where fishermen bring in their fresh catch of the day. We then head into the Old City of Mukalla, a charming maze of alleys lined with traditional Hadrami houses, coral-stone architecture, and vibrant souks. It’s the perfect place to wander, take photographs, and experience the blend of history and coastal charm. Afterward, we’ll return to the hotel to relax.
